Scotland is Open for Business, Property Expert Says | 25 March 2014

Scotland’s commercial property market is growing and the country is ready to welcome new businesses, the head of the Scottish Property Federation (SPF) believes.

According to the group’s chairman, Alasdair Humphery, market confidence is on the up – despite Scotland’s independence being a topic of debate at present.

Mr Humphery, who is also a director at Jones Lang LaSalle, says that fresh optimism across the rest of the UK means that developers and agencies north of the border will have to retain a competitive edge if the growth is to continue.

He was quoted by scotsman.com as saying: “Now that investors are looking beyond London and increasingly into a wider variety of assets, it is crucial that we are able to compete effectively with other major economic centres like Manchester.

He added: “We know this is a historic year for Scotland where the Scottish referendum will choose the destiny of the country, but our key message is that Scotland is open for business.”

The comments come after consultants at Savills released the results of a survey which show that the vast majority of property professionals are against the idea of Scotland becoming independent.

According to mortgageintroducer.com, 90 per cent of respondents said they think that a split from the UK would either cause prices to fall or growth to slow.
