Get Britain Building pledges thousands of new homes | 9 January 2012

The government has reiterated its pledge to the Get Britain Building scheme by creating a £420 million fund to unlock stalled sites in 2012, reports Property Wire.
By getting builders back on sites, housing minister Grant Shapps hopes the Get Britain Building Fund will provide Britain will the new homes it desperately needs - both for tenants and landlords.

It's expected to unlock around 16,000 homes on sites that are currently stalled, spelling good news for landlords hoping to increase their property portfolio. However, landlords may also need to invest in professional property management software in order to manage their wealth of new properties when the time comes.

Shapps commented on Builder and Engineer: "Across the country, housing projects backed by local people have been stalled due to the difficult economic situation, while these local communities have been left with an ongoing and pressing need for more homes.

"The £420 million Getting Britain Building Fund will change this, unlocking these developments to get workers back on sire and construction back on track to build up to 16,000 homes that would otherwise never get finished," he added.

All homes funded through Get Britain Building must be completed by December 2014 and must restart on site by December next year, according to the scheme's guidelines.
