MoD on the hunt for £500 million FM contract | 5 July 2011
£500 million has been set aside by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for a hard facilities management contract.
The contract will deal solely with army bases in Scotland and Northern Ireland alone; lasting for five years.
It will invite FM contractors to tender for repairs and maintenance of the sites. It is just one of four new contracts the MoD is taking out for its defence bases that will begin in 2013.
Whilst the MoD is accepting bids as of now, the deadline is not until December of this year; and its preferred bidder will not be announced until August 2012. The contract will then begin in mid-2013.
Speaking to constructionenquirer.com, Steve Rice, head of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), explained: “DIO’s top priority is to support our armed forces as they prepare for operations, but value for money must underpin everything we do for the defence frontline.
“This requires closer collaborative business partnering in key regions like Scotland and Northern Ireland. We’ve received a strong response to this contract opportunity and the evaluation of pre-qualification questionnaires has been intensive but thorough. The onus is now on finding the right industry partner for Scotland and Northern Ireland.”
Bidders who apply will be judged on their technical capability, health and safety record, financial standing, quality assurance, environmental management, equal opportunities status; as well as their diversity as an employer.
Concerning the sizeable role at hand, DIO’s contract project manager, John Brennan, told egovmonitor.com: “This is a challenging area for the estate, requiring an innovative, flexible and value-driven partner, so we have worked exhaustively to ensure that every questionnaire is given consistent analysis so that we leave no stone unturned.”
