Leicestershire set for 34,000 sq ft of grade-A office space | 27 August 2014
An extra 34,000 square feet of office space will be made available to businesses in Leicestershire next year, after work started on a major new development in Syston.
According to insidermedia.com, Marlborough Property Group will erect two three-storey buildings as part of the scheme, making it the biggest project of its kind in the county.
It’s also the first time in more than ten years that a grade-A complex of its size has been built without the developer having confirmed any tenants beforehand. This, according to the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership’s chief executive Corin Crane, is a positive sign.
Crane was quoted by leicestermercury.co.uk as saying: “When private investors start doing speculative building, you know things are looking up. They are savvy business people who make sharp decisions.”
Both of the new buildings – Marlborough One and Marlborough Two – will be situated on land at the 63-acre Watermead Business Park, which is adjacent to the A46 in the north of Leicester. The complex currently houses firms such as Flogas, Bentley and Laf arge-Tarmac.
With Bowmer & Kirkland appointed as the project’s on-site contractor, work is expected to be completed in summer next year. Commercial property firm Lambert Smith Hampton has been lined up to market the property to prospective businesses.
