Government pledges £80 million into green energy fund | 27 April 2012

The government has pledged to invest £80 million into two funds to develop green energy and recycling projects, fm-world.co.uk reports.

The government has pledged to invest £80 million into two funds to develop green energy and recycling projects, fm-world.co.uk reports.

Announcing the investment, business secretary Vince Cable explained that a fund of £50 million will be managed by Foresight group, whilst the remaining £30 million will be taken care of by Greensphere Capital.

In addition, a further £100 million will be made available for investment in the non-domestic energy efficiency sector, with the fund managers awarded a share expected to be announced in the summer.

The money is expected to go towards waste recycling and reprocessing facilities, as well as pre-treatment projects and energy-from-waste initiatives.

Cable explained how the investment was made ahead of obtaining state aid approval for the UK Green Investment Bank.

The issue of recycling and sustainability is a popular one, with recent reports claiming it to be at the forefront of many business owners’ minds, despite there being a recession. Those firms who want to more carefully consider their green credentials may consider using facilities management software in order to effectively measure their usage and implement ways of reducing it.

Speaking to clickgreen.co.uk of the most recent investment, Cable explained: “Investing directly now shows that we are not just sitting on our hands while we wait for the UK Green Investment Bank to receive state aid approval.”
