Edinburgh businesses bid for long-awaited office space | 3 July 2014

Businesses from across the Edinburgh region and beyond will soon have the chance to bid for new, Grade A office space after a deal was signed to build a state-of-the-art tower in the city.

According to heraldscotland.com , the seven-storey block will form part of Quartermile development, a mixed-use complex providing a wealth of fresh commercial and residential space.

Located at the old Royal Infirmary site in Edinburgh’s centre, the new tower will provide space for 2,000 office workers. The funding deal, agreed between owning firm Moorfield Real Estate and M&G Real Estate, is thought to be one of the largest of its kind to ever be reached in Scotland.

Local councillor Frank Ross spoke positively about the announcement. He was quoted by scotsman.com as saying: “This is a very exciting time for investment in the Capital and the speculative development of this Grade A office space at the Quarte rmile is a vote of confidence in our city economy.”

He went on to suggest that demand for office space will begin to rise significantly from next year, and said that he thinks the developers are moving at the perfect time.

As well as the prime, central office space, the decision will also lead to the creation of around 350 construction jobs. Work on the project will begin later this month and is set to be completed in 2016.
