Chief of BIFM praises organisation | 2 July 2012

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) – arguably the UK’s leading FM body – made a steady profit over the first five months of 2012.

According to its chief executive, Gareth Tancred, the organisation has performed well in 2012 so far and things look set to get better in the months to come.

In fact, Tancred is very positive about the body’s position. “I’m confident the sixth month will show we operated at a profit,” he said, cited by fm-world.co.uk.

“We’ve targeted a membership increase to 12,500 this year and that has already been beaten. We’re now hopeful that the highest ever membership number of 12,857 can be surpassed this year.”

This could come as good news to Britain’s facilities managers, as many could be counting on the BIFM for advice on the legalities and best practice surrounding facilities management. Businesses need to ensure their operations run as efficiently as possible, something that the BIFM can support with its guidance.

The news comes after equally positive reports that the recent Facilities Show, which featured a BIFM-backed theatre, enjoyed a 27.7 per cent rise in delegates. Ecofriendnews.com revealed that 13,464 visitors were in attendance, as well as 272 exhibitors – demonstrating that FM is still an important topic within Britain.

What’s more, one delegate – councillor Roger Patterson, from West Lindsey District Council – said the event was “absolutely fantastic”.
