Businesses boosted by Bicester developments | 24 June 2014
Businesses in Oxfordshire will soon have the chance to rent space in a new, state-of-the-art leisure complex, after planning officials gave the green light for work to start on the much-anticipated Bicester Community Building.
As well as a lengthy shopping parade, the development, which will be located in Bicester’s Pioneer Square, will comprise office space, a 53-bed hotel, library and restaurant. The construction is expected to cost around £6.5 million.
The district council will also benefit from the project, as it will base itself in office space on the structure’s ground floor.
Local councillor Norman Bolster, the lead member for economy and estates, thinks the move is a big step forward for the local area. He was quoted by insidermedia.com as saying: “This decision will enable the use of this site to be maximised to its full potential for the benefit of Bicester.
“Not only will this scheme bring jobs, boost the economy and provide essential community facilities but the addition of the hotel and restaurants will continue to rejuvenate the town outside of office hours, bringing greater activity and vitality.”
The Bicester Community Building is the final piece in the larger £70 million redevelopment of Pioneer Square. According to buckinghamtoday.co.uk, it is expected to open to the public in summer 2015.
