Belfast office space set to attract investors | 24 March 2014
A new office complex in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter will help to create jobs and attract fresh investment to the city, according to one government official.
Mark H Durkan, Northern Ireland’s Environment Minister, says that the £20 million structure will have room to accommodate around 2,000 workers and should help to address a severe shortage of office space in Belfast.
The comments come after the government’s planning department gave the green light for work to go ahead. The complex, which will comprise two separate buildings, will be erected on Queens Street and is set to offer 32,000 square feet of high-specification office space when complete.
Mr Durkan believes the development could have knock-on effects for the surrounding areas. He was quoted by irishnews.com as saying: “This proposal will further enhance other significant development projects for Titanic Quarter that have already been approved by DOE Planning.
“The Titanic Signature Project; the new Public Records Office for Northern Ireland; the Belfast Metropolitan College; offices already used by Citigroup at the Titanic Quarter gateway site and hotel accommodation are all creating a vibrant hub in the City.”
Investors from around the world are expected to show interest in the waterfront property when it is eventually put onto the market. It is hoped that work will be complete by the middle of 2015, bbc.co.uk reports.
